VISUAL ART
ONE WOMAN
One Woman is a photographic triptych that explores identity, lineage, and cultural convergence through the lens of African and African American visual traditions. Created in response to the 2019 Year of Return in Ghana, the work reflects a moment of transatlantic dialogue among Black creatives, where shared histories and distinct stylistic languages were actively shaping new visual vocabularies. Centered on the artist as subject, the piece functions as a form of self-portraiture—an intimate inquiry into what it means to exist as a Nigerian-Trinidadian woman living in the United States, and to locate oneself within a broader African Diasporic conversation.
