The objective of this curated event was to create an activation during Paramount Pictures’ “The Project Action Speaker Series” that educates the Paramount employees on the history and importance of Juneteenth, its journey to recognition, and how its celebration is one of the many symbols of #BlackJoy in the Black community. Through curated art, music, food, and user journey experiences the Paramount employees will leave this activation having a true understanding of what Black Joy is — it’s not just a hashtag, a playlist, or a marketing term. It is real people experiencing + celebrating real joy and that in itself is an act of resistance as well as an act of normalcy.

Inspired by one of our favorite childhood games, Candy Land, participants will be traveling along our “Black Joy Is ___” path. Each participant will be given a card with the objective of filling up the card with colors from the different booths where they get to experience Black joy in action. Each booth will have a signage that says “Black Joy is ____” and their activity will fill in the blank. At the end of the game, participants will have a moment to reflect on this experience along with a group meditation that will also serve as a photo opp moment!

Curated experiences: Voguing by Montay Romero, Acupuncture by Alexandria Brown, Accessorizing by Fatima Dodson, and Meditation by Nate Jones.
