Activism Now
CURATED EXHIBITION / PUBLIC ART INITIATIVE
Activism Now
Activism Now is a multi-site exhibition developed in collaboration with Black Women for Wellness as part of its Stop the Hate initiative, centering contemporary activists whose work extends the legacies of Malcolm X and Yuri Kochiyama. The project commissioned artist Monica Ahanonu to create six illustrative portraits that honor these figures, emphasizing strength, vulnerability, and the ongoing relationship between art and social change. Presented across three sites in California, the exhibition positioned public-facing visual art as a tool for dialogue, historical continuity, and collective reflection on justice, resistance, and care.
