It’s mother daughter day! A fun, heartwarming commercial where we see the beautiful exchange of a mother daughter trio as they have a full day of laughs, pampering, and glam. We meet them as they start their day with a little bit of tea time, reading, and hand game fun before the mother teaches the daughter how to do their hair + makeup as they get glammed up for their day.

Selkie is a fanciful, nostalgic, romantic brand that leans into the aesthetic of the 19th century French neoclassical period where the lines blurred between art x life and the female form were part of prestigious cultural discussions. This visual not only inserts the Black female way of being into a Eurocentric space, but also brings to life African Diasporic influences on French neoclassical art + fashion through subtleties like head wraps (worn by Caribbean women during the 19th century and inspired the way French women wrapped their hair in the neoclassical period) to referencing artwork by Afro-Caribbean female artists such as Lorraine O’Grady’s “Art Is..”
